Gus, now I’m lost here. In the scenario I outlined, people will NOT get points for buying products. Look at the forum points as a savings account. When you reach 5000 point, you can get a Panda for free, if you reach 25000 points, you can get a Cobra for free (if you did not already spent 5000 points on the Panda). (the numbers are just…numbers)
Possible in future.
Now that is cruel… I hope you repeat the 7" display deal once the insider program actually officially starts.

Question: What does this mean?
Define “compete”.
I’m trying to bring to market a stepper motor module. GHI has a stepper module. Doesn’t that qualify as “compete”?
Also, how will the decay affect insider access? I’m Hero, Insider costs $25 per year. But I just became Hero, so I might slip back to Master. If I pay for insider as Hero, and I slip to Master, what happens?
I wonder if my kids mind going hungry this week or do I wait for another 100 posts of southern whizdom before i join the in crowd
Once you’re an insider, your subscription is valid for a year and isn’t affected by rank changes. Rank is used to determine the subscription cost. Therefore rank changes would only affect prices when renewing.
Yea, but I’ve been waiting on that display! Any chance the rest of us will have access to it soon? I’d really like to be able to work up a demo before DevLink.

I also want to point out that you can purchase a GHI Insider subscription at this time.
This is just an option that will not limit you or anyone in any way.
A community needs to be fueled by committed people because of interests, not because of duty
I view the decay system as being a sort of punishment for not being able to post every day, remember that everyone in the community is voulenteers, and therefore spend their sparetime to keep the community running.
I know my rating isnt high, but I am choosing to play a more active role in the community, but the decaying points would not influence my participation positively.
However having said all this, I understand the reason you got this ideér. but arent your purpose to motivate people instead of presuring them ?
However I am quite happy with your products and will therefore continue to support regardless of this, but I am not particular positive about this.

Due to inflation here is my 5 cents, euros, sheckels, Yen your local currency…
The points decay only effects people that are already sucked into the FEZ vortex and only need to do .75 - 2.5 posts a day to keep up - no big deal to them me thinks.
For people like me it has already sucked me in happily to try and help where I can if anything pops up that I can answer.
So personally I don’t see what all the issue is - heads down and bums up and lets make some cool toys come to life

Decay only happens to those who are dedicated and regulars and have been highly active for a long time (maybe a year or more). The decay is there to help us give them more not less. Maybe in future we want to have all legends come visit us at GHI with all paid expenses. This only works if legends are “current legends” but if there is no decay, everyone will be a legend.
That’s not just everyone! You have to spend a lot of time here helping other ppl to even get close to Legend, even if it was 2 years ago, those still deserve respect. If there are 10 legends, you just invent new levels with more points.
No decay is needed. If that decay is GHI’s way of thanking us for our time we’ve spent here and code we shared, hmmm. Just gives me a bad feeling.
Glad my boss doesn’t decay my salary when I’m on vacation.

I do understand where you are comming from.
However I am not sure I agree with the way you go about it.
I understand you want to target the users who actually have made great contributions.
And right now I cant offer better sollution for that, but it dont nessecarily make it a good way to do it.
And well I just wanted to give you my opinion on this.
I have been a member of this community for a while now and even tho I dont post much (Having much problem to actually seeing the value of most forums), I am a fairly skillfull developer.
But at least we are discussing this here in an orderly fashion 
So keep discussing and get all the opinions aired
We are targeting user that answer questions, basically helping in providing support to new users. Many are doing it anyway because they love this community so we thought why not give them a bonus.
Many users will never go beyond master anyways so this will not effect them in anyway.
FYI …
Prior to releasing the new Ranks/Points system to the public, it was pre-announced and discussed on the GHI Insider forum.
There discussions were very similar, and sometimes identical to what is occurring here. GHI listened, and minor changes were
made to the proposal.
Most of members in discussion who are already at the higher ranks, and willbe most impacted by decay,seemed to reach a general
consensus that the current system is a good starting point.
