Brace yourself - Verdant is coming

looks like those NZ PCBs aren’t so flash after all ? Lotsa crosses there !!

@ Brett - Nah, they are special marked for special people …

@ Brett - same failure rate as the UK pcb houses. Shows how important etesting is and why you get mysterious none working boards from China that look ok when you don’t tick the 100% test option. They duff ones are due to routing the outline, the other panels are good.

Clearly it the breakoff tabs. All the ones with horizontal tabs worked, and all the ones with vertical tabs didn’t.

Pretty little things direct from Justin in the heart of Middle Earth - Verdant Orac boards and their development carrier boards. The processor board is the same size as my keyboard keys. So much goodness coming.

And then there’s this : http://forums.verdant.io/thread/about-verdant-components describing the software pieces going into Verdant. We’ll do another posting about the hardware once we finalize the list of reference devices.

I’ll also start posting a weekly progress update on the Verdant forum (I won’t pollute this thread further - just check in over there on the Verdant forum). The first update should come out tomorrow.

@ mcalsyn - Good start, but I suggest adding a few pictures, even unrelated ones. A wall of text scars people away in no-time.

Well, people who are scared off by a longish article of semi-technical stuff are not in my target audience for early adopters. The ones who care enough to get to the end of that article and start thinking about how they can use it, are.

Cheery, soothing (but irrelevant) pictures of petanque-playing Gen-X’ers can be found on our home page : http://www.verdant.io

(in all fairness though, that will be turned into a more attractive article on the main blog/docs site at some future date - ‘pretty’ just isn’t a tier-one requirement right now. We’re all about achieving minimum-viable-product status)

I welcome the deep text post. Great write up, thinking about my use case.

@ mcalsyn - No, the text are to create breaks in the reading of the document. There are 3 primary learning styles. Without any graphics that depict even basically what you’re talking about, you are putting 1/3 of the population at a disadvantage.

When I transition it to a blog post/document, I’ll keep that in mind. I had 30 minutes and erred on the side of just getting some info out there.
