WiFi module does not initialize?

I am using a dual USB cable which should be capable of outputting 1A.

Yes it “should” but I wouldn’t trust it. Can you try a powered hub or add a power pack to the DP module please?

No, not all of them are broken. I ordered about 60 units a while ago and I probably have got 40 or so working fine with the new SDK and the new firmware. At the moment 5 of the 60 units fail on initialization at following line:

wifi = new GTM.GHIElectronics.WiFi_RS21(9);

VS pops up following message:
An unhandled exception of type ‘System.ApplicationException’ occurred in GTM.GHIElectronics.WiFi_RS21.dll

Additional information: Unable to enable WiFi module.
And this is what the debug output says:
Using mainboard GHIElectronics-FEZSpider version 1.0

I have also tried now hooking up a 9V psu to the USB DP board but same problem.

Please email GHI directly for further investigation of the issue please.

What was the final outcome of this, as I currently have the same problem.

Thanks

If you see the same symptoms, it does not mean that it is the same problem.

Please create a new thread with what you tested and what results you got. With a pictures of how you connected it if possible.

Its pretty much exactly what I’m seeing and I have tried:

tried both sockets 6 and 9

different cables

using just a USBClientDP on its own and with a powered hub (note I’m also having a problem powering either of my USBClientDP modules see http://tinyclr.com/forum/21/6576/

tried using a USBClientSP

Tried using a powered USB hub (5v 2A)

tried a setup with just a wifi module

Using Feb. 24, 2012 Gadgeteer Package

Reflashed Spider 1.0 board to ensure latest firmware (confirmed with MFDeploy)

still can’t get past wifi = new GTM.GHIElectronics.WiFi_RS21(9);

no green led on the wifi module

error is Unable to enable WiFi module.

The wifi module is v1.1
The Spider board is v1.0
The USBClientDP is v1.3 (tried also with a v1.2)

What are the current hardware version of the spider and wifi modules as I think I’ll order some more of both and see if the problem goes away that way.

Duke Nukem,

Please send us an email for RMA. We will replace it for you. :wink:
