What did Mike do this afternoon?

This afternoon I went to a concert by one of my favorite artists. He is on a tour celebrating what would have been the 100 birthday of his father.

Who did I see?

Clue: As he was preparing for an encore, and people were shouting out requests, his number one hit was heard. When he heard this request,
he smiled at the audience and said “How you like to sing a half hour ground hog day time after time after time”.

Second question: What was the song he was referencing? Andrew D. will know the answer.

Here is a very bad photo.

It is a very bad photo. More hints please.

Going on “1/2 hour” and the father hint.

My guess the song was Alice’s Restaurant?

@ Architect - Actually the photo is not necessary.

That does look like it could be a long white haired Arlo Guthrie

Correct. And the song was Alice’s restaurant, as stated by Hector.

He gave one of the best concerts I have ever attended. My wife, who is not
a folk fan, enjoyed most of the concert.

I’m jealous. I bet that was a great concert.

Did he want to ride his motor-cicle (sic)?

Actually, most of the songs he did were written by his father.

An interesting note:
Woody Guthrie could not read or write music. While he had several hundred songs
recorded, there are about 3,500 additional songs on paper with no music. The
music for these songs is lost forever. But, the family has been sending out
selected songs to well known musicians to have them write music to go with
the words. Arlo played one of the songs, with music by Janis Ian, which was great.
