My wife and I are planning a trip to Rome in December.

what a pitty…I lived 50km below Rome for 9 years, but moved back to Belgium in 2009.
December…Guess you don’t need fancy beaches then. 
If you want to see some nice places outside Rome, let me know and i’ll give you some tips.
If you’re planning to take a cab, be warned that cab A is not cab B…they lift your pocket while you’re watching.
Restaurants, do NOT go to the restaurants in big fancy streets or touristic places, but go to the smaller streets, dead alleys (spelling? dead end street), they are mostly cheaper and better.
Any way, have questions, shoot them, as mentioned above, spend 9 years there.
