While on one of the internet access points yesterday (I regularly spend time on this site) I had the instability come back; if the firewall / DOS protection system is cutting in, it’s too aggressive on normal behaviour.

still blocked on a specific IP (210.50.54.82). Using the forum to read a couple of posts seems to be enough to trigger the blacklisting. Time to think about backing it off… a lot.

@ Brett - That IP has been whitelisted. The IP was being blocked for something called port scanning.

No I can certainly tell you I don’t. No virii here. What I do have however is a TinyCLR addiction, and my “port scan” is probably checking in to the forum too much, reading the http://www.tinyclr.com/forum/unread URL too much.

But, why would your browser be scanning multiple ports? It shouldn’t be looking beyond port 80. It really sounds like there’s something piggy backing your activity looking for ways in. Are you using multiple clients (RSS reader, toolbar notifier, etc.)? Might try turning on WireShark and see what all is trying to hit tinyclr.com and which ports.

12 step program, ha, I’ve met goal 1 which is admitting my problem, but that’s as far as I’m willing to go

My belief is the “new” firewall protection (is it new? It certainly takes out all GHI properties when it blocks!) is too harsh and is seeing the port 80 traffic as a port scan; perhaps the forum also uses other ports for it’s AJAX calls? I’ll run up netmon and see if I can see anything else

Mike Dodaro is being blocked on 50.46.150.157. Any chance you can whitelist that too?

Seems to me that the “normal” traffic generated must be above a threshold that the firewall starts to block.

Ive noticed that if i do a search for a word then go to options and set just the board section i want i still get results from all boards

GHI Insider is a board option. However, unless you have permissions you won’t see results even if you checkmark the board. Unless you can prove otherwise?

what HughB is saying is that whatever board you select, it always shows the result from all boards.

For example, search for RTC and select only the GHI Insider board, you still get search results from the other boards.

Another issue i saw is that the topic titles are missing often.
Take again the rtc search term and search in the news section

Since the switch over to the new site, messages now include a subject "RE: " automatically. When you search, messages are returned and the subject is used to relay the topic title. We did this to keep searches fast. On the old site the subject input was hidden. Therefore those messages don’t have a subject (which makes you think there is no topic title). We’ll look into fixing this.
