Robot Tank?

Has anybody considired using something like this for a robot base?

At under $50 for tracked base plus electric bb gun this might be fun.

Shipping to me starts at $70(Air Parcel, which I dont trust) so it’s a no-go for me… :frowning:

Also, lack of replacement tracks might be a problem…

Stuff like that is usually pretty easy. If it has an RC speed controller, then you just need my ESC driver. If it doesn’t, you probably just need an H-bridge.

There are a lot of people who converted a RC tank to a robot chassis. One thing which I absolutely not like about this solution that it’s not really “robot design”. I love thinking a lot about how to build a chassis/make several parts for the robot.

The second thing which I do not like is that you will always see that this was a RC tank. (tracks)

The third thing is the spare tracks. You will probably not find a track for this anywhere. So as soon as your track dies, you will run into a problem.

One possible solution is building a tank base from scratch, which I am doing currently in my (limited) free time. Alu, plexi, 2 cordless drills, 2 bike chains, 2 PVC pipes, screws, creativity and you are on the right track.

You can follow my progress on my blog, which is listed below. Note that my spare time is limited at the moment, so there might be less updates the next 3 weeks, add me on twitter to get updates.\

If you need help just ask.

All valid points.

I’m not any good at hardware design tough.

Also, I would like my bot to have offensive capabilities…

Personally, I would like to build all electronics into a chassis like this, with minimal external signs that it was modified, to have a “Robot Tank”

Anyway, i’m sticking with my Tamiya constructor design at this time. It’s easy to add/remove stuff for testing…

Well, you could add some paint. But it will always be clear that this was a RC tank (because the tracks look like a tank track)

Anyway, it’s your choice what to do. If I am spending a lot of money doesn’t mean you have to do it too.

It should not be hard to convert. Just rip it apart, add a motor controller (if needed) and maybe some plexi on top so you have a nice base for your electronics.
