Pretty sure I’ve done every single one of those, plus a few involving git submodules.

Do people use Git simply because it’s free?
certainly not. coming from large scale thick application development, there really doesnt seem to be a better way for multiple developers and multiple release branches imho. also it hasnt always been free in those circumstances, private repos used to be pay only.
I find the same advantage, albeit smaller, even when your working on your own.
Working on your own on small scale stuff, i guess there is no particular advantage and can be a pain to learn. i for one basically know what i need to and no more until there is a problem
