If you want to send data to a Web service from a Mountaineer Ethernet mainboard, or use your Mountaineer Ethernet mainboard as a Web server, then you may be interested in the “Getting Started with the Internet of Things” (GSIoT) book samples. I adapted them to NETMF 4.2 QFE2 and Mountaineer Ethernet Mainboards.
The archive also contains an HTTP server that supports access even through firewalls and NATs, without requiring port forwarding.
If you use the original Mountaineer firmware, then you first need to update to NETMF 4.2 QFE2. See here http://www.mountaineer.org/resources/netmf-4-2-qfe2/ for more information. (Warning: the new firmware does not yet support the Gadgeteer libraries, and you need Windows Vista or newer.)
Oh, and if you still need a Christmas present for yourself, then maybe the book would be cool as well
