MIKROE-6524 - Pretty cool

Somebody is finally offering the PowerStep01 for sale on a custom board! And the fact that they got this on a board this small gives me hope

Kind of pricy though.

Can you remind me on why I should use this vs others?

I believe it handles the pulse generation internally. It does not require the microcontroller to handle the timing. I think it also handles the acceleration and deceleration.

Is there a way to have multiple run in sync?

From the dev board, I don’t think so. This is one of the problems I see with people trying to implement this chip. There needs to be three types to this board: A base, a daisy and a top. That way, the user can just plug them in the right order and voila

Speaking of order:
13 of them: (EDIT: PowerStep01 Driver boards I mean)

The PowerStep01? They are both current and voltage mode drivers which is something none of the other ICs have. Also they can tolerate up to 80V.
