LPD8806 by the meter

Now that’s a fancy spectrum analyzer!

Is everybody clear that this was a prepaid group order? If not, and you’re uncomfortable with that, let me know by email.

Not sure I understand what this means? I emailed a request but never sent payment.

I think that means he wants some $$$ before he places the order

My confusion has been cleared up.

Order was made. I should have blinkies in hand in 10-14 days.

 So, what’s everyone going to do with all this blinky madness?

@ ransomhall - so how many meter did you end up ordering?

I have no idea what I’m going to do with mine  I just don’t want to be left behind when everyone will start posting videos

Going to get a few bike spoke POV thingies from http://hokeyspokes.com/ , add some of these strips to the frame and blink my way through the summer…

@ ransom - that’s awesome! I’ll be watching for you on the news. I’ve got a couple of the bike povs from adafruit.com I bought a while ago for another project that I never ended up using. Waiting for my kids to get a tad bit bigger then I’ll hook 'em up.

@ ianlee74 - 3 words…Christmas LED Madness.

@ ransomhall - OK, I think that may be simultaneously one of the worst websites I’ve ever seen, and one of the coolest gadgets ever for a bike. If I ever rode at night, I’d TOTALLY be buying some.

I’m thinking Halloween is going to be fun this year  How do you power these things? Can they be powered directly from a FEZ or is a separate power supply necessary?

I ordered the 5V strips so you can power a fairly short length directly from a uC. Exact lengths depend on how many LEDs you have on at once and what color/intensity. I measure current with all on at brightest white to get a max value.

It would be easy enough to make a gadgeteer controller module for these that could handle plenty of power and run/store various “blink scripts”.

I bet Gmod is cranking that out as I type

But it’s not the worst name ever for a cool POV gadget…

For that, see New DUB PimpStar LED message wheel promo - YouTube .

Didn’t see LEDs. I only saw a blonde in a Ferrari. Not sure how to pick one

Soon to be banned by auto insurance companies.

Banning blondes driving might be a hard fight

OK, so I know this thread is in “off topic” but wow, it’s going downhill fast, and more off-topic with each post.

Definitely a worse name. I’d seen that gadget before…I’m trying to picture just how quickly one would crash while trying to update the wheels while driving…and we thought texting was dangerous!
