Is it safe to short 5V and Vin if using a regulated 5V power supply?

For my LED cube I bought a 5V power supply which can power the Panda II as well (15 W). With the current needed I don’t want to fry the 5V regulator and preferred a 5V regulated supply instead of a 6V+ supply.

Is it safe to bridge Vin and 5V pins, as the regulator is not needed? Or should I connect it to the 5V pin only?

So be it, I will find a solution to get the connection wired through the breadboard.
