Gadgeteer Cable Pack Wire AWG?

So this gets you a custom length, but the price per cable is about the same (maybe less in volume) as existing cables. Correct?

The price per cable is far less.

@ jdal - if I just want to make custom length cables which parts do I need?

I see this is the cable…

But it’s not clear to me if I need only one or both of the other two parts you ordered.

@ ianlee74

To make your own cables you just need these two things.

#1) Cable Ends

#2) wire

Thanks!

Am I reading this correctly? It looks like the price per cable end is $1.81 (USD in qty of 100). That’s $3.62 per cable just in the ends. How do you arrive at ā€œthe price per cable is far less.ā€ I’m hoping that the qty on Mouser is for a 10 pack or something but I’m not seeing any mention. This comes to close to $4 per cable which is almost double the per cable cost from GHI. Of course, they aren’t in custom lengths.

@ ianlee74, when i said ā€œthe price per cable is far less.ā€ that was in reference to post #12 in this thread concerning the samtec cable.
It would be great if GHI would also sell the headers and sockets as well.

Oh, I see. I didn’t read far enough back. I agree. It would be nice if GHI could sell a cable roll and headers at a decent price. It would be a shame to have to pay more for the cable than for the module :frowning: At a minimum, it would be nice if GHI could offer 10 packs of the individual sizes that are in the assortment pack. I have more short cables already than I’ll probably ever use. The only way to currently get one 50cm cable is to buy the assortment pack :frowning:

i too would like to see them sell all the parts, header for the board, connector for the cable and the cable.

I would also like to have very short cables so that I can chain DaisyLink modules such as the MultiColorLED literally side by side and not have a huge length of wire sticking up or have to tuck away some where.

I haven’t determined an exact length, but I would imagine something in the 2-3cm length.

I’ll get a picture of the LED modules on one of the mounts I cut to illustrate sometime this week.

Then you need 2 or 4 cable ends. Cut existing 10cm cable to desired length and you will have 2 or 3 short cables.

I meant pre-assembled short cables that I can buy in bulk

Like this for instance: 10-pin Socket/Socket IDC cable - Short 1.5 : ID 556 : $1.50 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits

Wrong size. Those are 0.1" spacing.

Yeah, I know… I want Gadgeteer cables made in that rough length that I can buy in bulk pre-made. Those are actually slightly too long, and one of the connectors has the ā€œtangā€ backwards.

How many do you need?

Possibly 100 or so to start with. I have almost 50 MultiColor LEDs now, and have a couple of demo projects (that could turn into production pieces) that would use these short cables.

All depends on the price I suppose
