As much as I love robots etc, I do wonder what these people will do to put food on the table etc.

Aw that’s why they are doing it. They are getting paid.

The communists are short sighted.

Being communists, the government is responsible for the people, everyone’s efforts are pooled together and are distributed to the masses as the ruling class sees fit.

For those of you youngsters flirting with the seductive illusion of socialism, socialism is the gateway drug for communism.

So the ruling class pays the companies (Foxconn) to implement robotics which puts everyone who had a food providing job, out of a job.

Now WTF are they going to do to feed the masses?

Remember the phrase “eat your food, there are staving children in China”. That was the phrase our parents told us due to the great Chinese famine around 1960. The communist party couldn’t feed everyone. Zillions died of starvation.

Anyway China feels the need to keep their costs down as to remain the “go to” country for manufacturing, but they are cutting their nose off despite their face.

@ Terrence -
…but they are cutting their nose off despite their face.
- despite their face?
Now WTF are they going to do to feed the masses?
Why the robots of course!
So the ruling class pays the companies (Foxconn) to implement robotics which puts everyone who had a food providing job, out of a job.
So the thinking for automation is that either we cut 60K jobs to keep costs down or the manufacturing moves to India and we cut 110K jobs because the factory is closing. Which would you prefer @ Terrance.

@ Mr. John Smith -
or the manufacturing moves to India and we cut 110K jobs
Well at least the letdown would be slower if India took the jobs rather than robots./? At some point India will have the same problem.

So what is the planet going to do? Maybe we start rationing electricity to the robots so they feel the pain.

I do not have the solution to the downward spiral of the labor pool drain. At some point our kids will be up against the same threat.

In the future we will be valued for our minds, not our bodies.

@ Mr. John Smith - Yup.
We will all be in stasis with tubes feeding us and our brain waves piped out via GB or TB conduit to the Robots making the decisions.

Oh that’s right, for the record, I approve or our Over Lords.

John, do you have any more cold beer? I’m out.

A very few folks will be valued for their minds, the rest not so much. The problem really comes down to for example the USA doesn’t need 330 Million engineers, plus you can always out source engineers to whatever country you want (we are actually looking to outsource our executives to some third world sh*t hole so we can save a pile of money on executive salaries and bonuses) but ditch diggers, well they can’t be outsourced as that ditch that needs digging is right here.

After spending 2 weeks in Shenzhen next to the Foxconn empire I feel even more sorry for the employees…

I can guarantee most pampered westerners would shake their heads if the saw the conditions they have to deal with…i know I did :frowning:

Speaking as a well pampered Westerner, I agree with this statement. There a bad conditions all over the world, some of which are mind bogglingly atrocious.

On the bright side, we’ll find a balance…eventually. Almost, but not quite, all technological advances have come from a desire to improve the human condition.

In the meantime, there’s always work for labor and people who feel strongly will make it known by taking their business elsewhere. I personally have a lifetime ban on several companies for their practices.

Yeah, there’s times when you’ve got no choice. But when you do
