FEZ Spider Deployment Issue

You will not see EMX under device manager. But you should see EMX under “Device” on FEZ Config.

Click ping and you should see

Pinging… TinyCLR

If you see

Pinging…TinyBooter then you need to click on firmware update tab and go through the process.

Do not open visual studio till you can ping and see TinyCLR back.

Visual studio is now closed.

I reset the board (via the reset button) and the device came up in the FEX Config. It does not survive the ping and soon reports “Failure - Device is not connected or not responding”

With the power supply connected?

@ Gus - Yes sir.11.63V on the board.

The box says 1000mA. Using a Magnetics USA 7 output AC/DC Adapter.

Would you try the other ports on your pc?

I really do not understand why it is not working for you.

Ok, I will try the other ports.

Here is the thing… as soon as i press and release the reset button, the FEZ Config sees the device. But as soon as I click the ping button on the screen, the device disappears.

Could there be some timeout or other communication setting in Windows that is messing us up?

Plugged device into a new port.
Got "unknown device"
Pressed reset
Got Device in device manager with an ! warning.
Pressed reset again
Got the normal looking GHI NETMF Interface USB device in device manager.

FEZ Config screen says "USB EMX_Gadgeteer"
Clicked “Ping”…
Window header says (not responding) and the status says “No device” and the error “Failure - Device is not connected or not responding”

I really think this could be a timeout type of error somewhere in a setting configuration. Any ideas?
Struggling now.

Do you have a volt meter? Please measure the 3.3v on the sockets.

@ Gus - not too sure what combination of pins to test but we found a pair of pins on the output of the power module that read 3.2v

Please set the configuration switches in tinybooter mode and power the board. What do you see?

@ Gus - Will do that shortly. Just confirmed the pins: GND to pin #1 is 3.28v and GND to pin #2 is 4.92v

Tinybooter mode is set.
Device is visible and connected in FEZ Config.

Clicked Ping.
Says “Pinging… TinyBooter”

Good news.

We did Loader-TinyBooter Update (FEZ Spider) and reloaded everything with version 4.3.

We reverted the dip switches back to default, and restarted.

No problems with the ping!!!
Output says “Pinging…TinyCLR”

Back to programming in the morning. Good night.
