FEZ Portal not detected by Windows 11 or TinyCLR Config over USB C

I received a FEZ Portal Rev C from GHI through Amazon which did not include the USB C cable listed in the package contents. I used a spare USB A to USB C cable from home to connect to and power the SBC.

The Demo App launches and runs, but the FEZ is not recognized by my HP laptop Windows 11 Device Manager or the latest TinyCLR config app. I have reconnected and reset the SBC many times in an attempt to fix this. I have also tried the MFDeploy tool with the same result.

I have emailed GHI support for the missing cable hoping this will resolve the issue.

Other forums indicate the Windows USB driver should auto install when the SBC is connected. I receive no messages of this kind.

What do you see under device manager when you plug your board in?

Hi Gus,

There is no change to the USB list when I plug in the SBC using the USB A to USB C cable. Also, no Windows sounds like when plugging in a mouse.

I am guessing your USB cable is a charge only cable. Can you try a different cable or try a different port on your computer?

yes, I tried two which could be charge only. I may pick up another to try from Staples. I appreciate your help!

You can try plugging the phone using the same cable to see if Windows detects it, just to see if this is a charge only cable.

Great suggestion but my phone has a lightening connector (which works). The USB C cable must be from an old device.

I purchased Staples TECH USB-C to USB-A Charging Cable, 3.3 ft., 480 Mbps, White (ST62337).

Windows Device Manager and TinyCLR Config now recognize the FEZ Portal.
