FEZ Panda II - Not Recommended for New Design?

Hello,

i have question about future of this great device. I plan to use this device for a smart home controller. Will there be a replacement for model Panda II, or should I focus on devices FEZ Cerbuino Bee (is. NETMF 4.2?).

and last question, there is an update to. NETMF 4.2 for Panda II?

thanks

Hi Pynosol, and welcome to the forum!

To answer your last question first, that should help with your earlier questions, there is NO plan for GHI to produce a 4.2 version of their commercial firmware for USBizi based boards. 4.1 will be the last supported framework (you can still use the current tools etc to develop for this). (There was talk of an OpenUSBizi port but that hasn’t been mentioned recently). USBizi chips are still expected to be available for some time from GHI. So if you don’t need 4.2 features, then stay with 4.1 and you’re good; this is the way many commercial customers of GHI are expected to continue with their current products. But if you’re only doing one-offs then I would suggest Panda II may not be a sensible longer term platform, if your current one breaks you may have to move to a newer device.

The Cerberus and family devices, including Cerbuino, are all based on the STM 32F4 chip and are the current “hot” device, so would be a good choice if you’re looking at a different platform.

… While keeping in mind that some offers are open and some are premium. You can’t use Cerberus to replace panda but you can use G120

yes, sorry, should have added that the open platform the STM32F4 is using is not as feature rich as you may be used to, so depending on what you need you may need to consider as Gus says one of the Premium devices
