personal preference (although you may have missed the boat on getting them before Chinese New Year and the shutdown of shipping from China). I buy nylon M3 bolts and nuts and standoffs (the double-ended female type, not the male+female the GHI metal standoffs are).
@ Brett - I like the round standoffs that are threaded all the way through. I’ve just run out, though, and I can’t remember where I got the ones I have. 
I actually dislike the round ones, but that’s possibly because I ended up with the imperial “close” equivalent to M3 and they’re as tight as all get-out to use.

that’s the 18mm item of choice for me… I now have several lengths though 
I prefer to use cylindrical plastic spacers with long screws and a single nut. I think it makes it faster and easier to assemble/disassemble since I don’t have to worry with a screw on each end of the sandwich.
I never remove the standoffs from the module once I’ve attached it - so worst case I have twice as many screws to apply first up, but from then on I am in exactly the same scenario as you @ Ian…
but PLASTIC is the important thing for me. (and GHI taught me that - my first Domino didn’t quite have a non-plated, non-connected, non-kept-out hole that looked like a mounting hole… )
Where do you get your cylindrical standoffs? I can’t recall where I got mine, and they’re really useful. Do you use the threaded ones?

I like having 1 side with the screw, and the other side with the hole (like the aluminum gadgeteer standoffs, which I also love, and will add an order in whenever I order from GHI)
