Feel like a drug dealer

The first hit is free!, after that you have a monkey on your back. Tonight I did a Gadgeteer presentation for the Calgary .Net User Group and as a door prize I gave away a FEZ Spider Start Kit, so welcome a soon to be Gadgeteer addict.

@ Duke Nukem - nice one fella, how was the gospel received?

Packed room, and I think Gus might be seeing some new customers in Calgary as we had some definite Wow moments as people couldn’t believe how easy, powerful and flexible Gadgeteer is. Really Gadgeteer sells itself and as more modules show up, it just sells bigger. Its an upward positive spiral, the more developers get in, the bigger the demand for hardware and the more modules there will be, and even more developers join in. Gadgeteer growth is guaranteed. Like I’ve always said Gadgeteer has that balance between hardware and software better then anything else. I’m a software guy, but with hardware dudes like yourself @ Justin cranking out the cool modules I just want to code even more devices, we have the perfect mix that works for both software and hardware dudes.

@ Duke Nukem - best I get some class A’s off to Calgary then

Calgary is a monster Oil and Gas city, big IT and lots of jobs, but where companies are going next is optimization of operations which means automation and feedback devices, so Gadgeteer is going to be the tool which makes this possible (the next thing in IT). I had one demo where the device uploaded data to a collection site (COSM.com in this example), has a web server on the device where you could get the current conditions and control switches etc (as well as local to the device controls), local data storage and easily built in no time (everyone here has built at least a couple of these, they are no big deal to Gadgeteer dudes), exactly what a couple of attendees from some oil and gas companies were looking for (I was surprised how many SCADA vendors attended and they were licking their chops too at the end of the presentation). Quick look at the evaluation forms and I’d say 90% gave a 5/5 that they want to learn more about Gadgeteer, so mission accomplished.

Thank you fit supporting us and supporting gadgeteer.

What did you present / Can you share materials? I’d like to do a lunch&learn at my work on the subject.

@ Dr9 - there is a powerpoint (http://www.ghielectronics.com/resources/marketing) that serves as a great starting point for a presentation.

Great job Duke!

Even the non-techies I show it to, when I explain how the plugs and letters work, they say “wow, that must make it really easy to make things!”

And our wallets get lighter and lighter…

@ stevepresley I’m thinking that our wallets are going to get much fatter as I see some successful commercial products in my future based on some very promising Gadgeteer prototypes.

Oh, as do I - if I could just get the time to build them!
