Ever thought of using a "pro" RC car as a robot chassis?

Me? Besides being a student, I have a small computer repair business that I have been doing for years. I have a good client base and it makes good money. It’s also horribly repetitive and boring, but hey, can’t complain at making $55 an hour.

Other than that, I am a professional developer/Linux admin working for another company.

On another note, it would be nice to have a conference call with MarkH. He has a board developed as a power supply/line filter that is exactly what we have been looking for. He says he has components to make a few of them.

Find a time we can all agree on and I’ll set it up.

It’s on Mark then. I am free any time, except for Saturday morning and tomorrow morning.

FYI i’m +8:00GMT (12hrs ahead of GHI time). I’m going to pick up a set of headphones with a mic and possibly a webcam (i need it for working with a client on his project). I also need to get a Skype account for working with him.

If there is a way we could VOIP it using Skype, MS Live, or Google that would be great. International calls are hideously expensive

I believe i’m staying at my girlfriend’s place this weekend so we’ll have to see how we go. What time zone are you guys in?

Greg and I are both in GMT - 6

GMT+8? My god man where are you? Must be Japan if you’re +8.

We can do skype - you can set up conference calls with skype as well.

Australia, a very isolated little part of australia called Perth.

Skype works, OR we could use GHIs web based software. when do you guys want to do it?

Oh that’s right Mark - I forgot I had made accent comments before.

My usual schedule still applies - after 8pm most nights (GMT-6, -5 right now with daylight savings), can also sometimes do during the week from 11am-1pm same time zone.

Easiest is really after 8pm though - at home, kiddies are asleep, etc, etc, etc…

8PM works for me…

I am in too once time is set for sure. Just tell me when

Awesome! Well when ever you guys want to do it…

A power supply? To run the RC car directly from the LiPo battery?

yes Kurtnelle - I mean we have this monster battery and the electronics don’t take much juice.

Hi guys what is the call about?

I just ordered couple cheap ultrasonic sensors from http://www.futurlec.com/Distance_Sensors.shtml
Not sure if it worths or not but since I am not going for speed. most of the time my robot will be used in door. so I thought 2-3 meters distance would be fine for me.

Let me know your thought.

Hai,

I’m using the maxbotix sensors (www.maxbotix.com) rather than the Ping))). The Maxbotix are smaller, better ranging, multiple outputs, etc, etc, etc. They also cost a few dollars more but they are awesome. Accurate within 1/2" in my testing.

Hi GregO

I look at those too, I love to have those, but they cost around $27. that is the reason I go for the 1/2 price, shorter range, unknown brand. they may not do what I expected them to do though. I took a risk there, but you know it is the same feeling when i decided to spend my first $150 on FEZ, not to say that FEZ is “unknown brand” what I means was …I was unsure if I was able to do anything with FEZ

Kewl, I’d like to see the powersupply design as well if it’s possible.

Chris, can you link the IMU that you purchased? It’s gotten very hard to find in this thread.

Hi Kurt,

I got a Sparkfun 9DoF Razor IMU: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9623

Chris,

Kewlio, and just for reference was there any particular reason for using this device, other than the fact that it’s highly integrated?
