Does 100 + 100 = 200?

I’m working on a little HW project and the schematic calls for a 200k resister. The closest value the local Radio Shack store had was 220k. I bought a variety box of common valued resisters from Amazon, and it also did not have a 200k.

Can I just wire in 2 x 100k in line with each other to get to 200k?

Yes you can:

2 x 100K in series gives you 200K = R1 + R2

2 x 100K in parallel gives you 50K = (R1 * R2) / (R1 + R2)

But depending on the HW project type, the 220K could also fit.

Thanks for the answer (yet again) and the maths.

Just use the 220.
