Dallas .NET Micro Framework User Group

The Dallas .NET Micro User Group focuses on the .NET Micro Framework (NETMF) from Microsoft. The group meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at Improving Enterprises and our meetings are free to attend. Please RSVP according to the monthly meeting announcement to assure plenty of food and drinks for everyone.

This month we’ll meet on Wednesday, February 29th. Topic will be on a low-cost modular tri-color scrolling LED matrix.

If you live in the Dallas area, visit http://dallasmicro.net for future meeting information.

Nice to see a UG dedicated to the topic! Is this new or have you been at it awhile? What is attendance like (count) at your meetings? I’ve always thought this was too much of a niche for a UG, but would love to be proven wrong!

I missed the “Notify me when a reply is posted” checkbox below, sorry for the delay.

We have been meeting since August 2011. There was an all Saturday .NET Micro event held the prior month and attendees stated they would like to have a monthly user group meeting on NETMF. I run another user group here in Dallas as well, so I knew what it takes to get one going and keep it going.

We have between 5 to 15 users each meeting, not an extreamly large crowd, but there is interest and many return each month to learn more. It is setup for the .NET programmer who knows little to nothing about electronics. We have several Electrical Engineers if an advanced user should have a tough question, that it can be answered. If someone wants to focus more on the electronics side of things there is always the Dallas Makerspace group they can attend.

I bring several kits (GHI kits of course 8)) to each meeting for new users if they don’t have any microcontollers to work with. I want them to get a hands-on experience to see that it is not as hard as they think it is.

It’s a fun time and I look forward to it each month.

Todd,

I wish I could make one of those meetings, but they never seem to mesh with my schedule. Great thing about Dallas is that we have a fantastic technical community.

Yes we have a very large technical community. Here is a link to a calendar with all the user groups in the area http://www.southcentralcommunity.com/

For those of you who can’t make it to any of these groups, you can find recordings of a lot of them at http://usergroup.tv/

You won’t find much on the Dallas .NET Micro User Group posted there since our meetings follow a hands-on approach rather than someone presenting the whole time.
