Component storage boxes

Hi all,

just wanted to show you all how I store my components. These boxes can be bought fairly cheap in the Netherlands.

Greetings

Nice and neat, much better than my “Throw it on the bench top and i’ll eventually find it filing system”

You might want to check out my solution. It’s similar but a bit more compact.

Sounds very much like my workbench in the garage, much to my wife’s chagrin.

You guys are a bit too OCD for me

But then again I only dabble (and that’s generous) in H/W. I only have a few resisters and caps for when I put my distance finding IRs together.

Well, I bought some nice component sets a couple months ago, and was getting tired of all those plastic bags

Well it certainly makes sense - as it makes it that much easier find exactly what you want!

I am one of the most disorganized people you will ever meet one trick I have now adopted is everything in plain sight and labeled nothing will kill the creative process more than “crap where is that part/tool” I use those old school plastic part boxes mainly because you can hang them on peg board.

I use various sizes of these:

Office Depot, Office Max and Amazon carry them - most are less then $3 each, and many times that have 2 for 1 specials on the smaller boxes.

I’ll try to take a picture of my gear this weekend.

I use these

Top is great for keep assembled or semi assembled projects in and the storage boxes work well for modules etc. They make tackle boxes which would also work great. Handy for haul stuff around, but when I fly I keep the gadgeteer stuff in the my check in luggage as I don’t want to play 50 questions at security and I know the TSA/DHS/etc are going to search my luggage anyways so I’m happy to let them figure out what it is on their own.

@ Duke Nukem - Glad I’m not the only one who isn’t ashamed to carry gear in colorful cases…here’s the one I use:

Pete likes to razz me about the colors, but it’s a great case, though I’m running out of room in it.

Don’t worry guys, we don’t think any less of you. Honestly…

FYI - if you go to the fishing dept at Walmart they have some lovely manly variations of the same box

Oh if Purple and Lime, were the only colors I have these in, as the wife especially likes to razz me about the Purple and Pink one, but then again she didn’t read the profiling criteria list used by Zombies as they would never suspect a Purple and Pink case as containing weapons of mass Zombie destruction  (not to mention TSA agents).

Good point! You can never be too prepared for the Zombie Apocalypse!
