Community Discord channels

Do you guys think Discord is a good idea?

For casual chat, Discord is fine. But for troubleshooting and knowledge transfer it is not very good. It is too hard to search for answers and follow a conversation. At least in my opinion, and maybe I am just too old to understand the appeal of Discord.

I totally agree. I have seen many people use but I am personally not a big fan

I think it has it’s place, and that place is one-to-many discussions, like an “ask me anything” session or a livestream. I follow Usagi Electric on Discord when he does livestream engineering sessions, but for other open-source projects that just use it for Q&A and community discussions, I do prefer the forums for some of the same reasons that @skeller mentions.

So, Gus, if you were going to do an ask-me-anything, or you or @Dat_Tran or your hardware engineer wanted to do a livestream of their engineering process (say for some of the new DueLink boards), I’d hop on that for sure.

Does anyone do something like a weekly schedule for “ask me”?

Adafruit does one.

I have seen that but I didn’t know they use Discord! Do they?

No. I didn’t think you were restricting vendors of interest to Discord.

My opinion…

Why wait a week when you can generally get an answer on this forum within hours.
