I’m interested in purchasing:

What type of service would I need to enable this? Verizon, etc?

If I dont plan on it communicating all the time, can I use one service for many of these devices?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is not locked to a specific carrier. You just need a SIM card SIM card - Wikipedia

I believe it needs GSM service. Verizon is CDMA. AT&T is GSM.

Isn’t that why version doesn’t have SIM cards?

I have a Verizon iPhone 4S which also supports GSM. it has a SIM card. I use gsm when I travel to Europe.
