USB Client module broken

I got my FEZ spider starter kit yesterday, however there is a piece in the USB client module which is broken, As far as my understanding goes on this subject that I need this module to deploy my code on Spider. Is there any alternate to it i.e using the USB host module?

Welcome to the forum.

The USB client module provides power and USB connectivity.

You could setup your device for serial debugging, which would require
a serial to USB module, and provide 5V from an external power supply.

If you are just starting out, I recommend that you get the USB Client DP module
replaced.

Looks like this was knocked off in shipping. We can replace it for you no problem but you do not have to wait if you like. Just solder the capacitor back. If you or anyone oyu know have little soldering experience can put it back on. Be careful with orientation. See pictures on catalog to verify it.

@ Gus … check reflow equipment configuration … seems to be a classic problem …

@ dobova - This module predates GHI building this board in house.

We had a problem like this and my colleague get crazy with novastar reflow to get working on smt condensers and inductors. Just an info, but obviously one component detached is not a problem sintom.

For me to have one part fall off is never good.

This Novastar oven, how many zones is it?

We had a failure every 15-20 board so that was a mess and it happens after few month of correct reflows. I remind that the equipment was 4 zone plus a particular double cooling zone. I’m not an expert of pcb production line, and I need to talk with the guy who followed the issue if you want more info. The guy used correct profile but something was not in spec as indicated by the German chemicals supplier. I can’t remember if was the soldering paste chemicals or what else but also the customer support technician from novastar came to see the issue.

Thank you guys, I got it soldered and its working fine.
