Distance module!!! Kids need it, don’t discontinue!!!
Guys, are you guys closing your buz, I looked of remainder of your products, not much left off the list
@ eugenep - It’s open source, you can get built anywhere like, http://www.turnkeyassembly.com/.
Don’t worry, we are not closing our business, we spent alot of time analyzing our offers and processes. As a result we decided to discontinue some products that could be easily reproduced. While it may be a bit shocking at first, the reduction in our catalog offers was done to increase quality in both support and remaining products.
@ Gary - Technically you guys removed most what I needed, and this place has only 6 items from the list and it’s much more expensive, basically you driving me off your platform
If this is for commercial need and ordering volume then turn key has very similar prices… or lower prices. If you need couple for a hobby then it should be easy to make these through batch ordering websites.
No matter what you need, there are good options. If you can’t find a solution, then please give us a call and I am sure we can find a solution.
@ eugenep - what are you looking for that’s not on TKA and which products are more expensive?
I have really mixed feelings about this…I agree that lower prices are essential to gaining market share against Arduino and it does make sense for GHI to focus on the microcontrollers and select modules for both business strategy and overall platform/community health, but the discontinues really hit robotics hard. In theory someone could spin up a side business servicing this market with occasional batch builds or one of those PCB printers under development, and this really is what needs to happen for Gadgeteer to develop into a true ecosystem, but I have my doubts on whether it will actually happen with the technology and market in its current state. But then again, robotics is the area where Arduino is strongest so it might not be a battle worth fighting–at least not right now–and I can totally understand that. .NET in general has always been better suited to GUIs and high-complexity smart device projects.
Maybe TKA could have a group buying section where a bunch of individuals pledge for a few back-catalog modules and if/when the order fills up, it gets made. We could try using Kickstarter/Massdrop/etc. for that but I don’t think their time limits and focus on broad-appeal technology products would be a good fit. Or maybe one of the power users could make their own, with the mechanics specifically tailored to the needs of a small hobby-electronics community.
@ Bogus - You can add whatever modules you want, it is an open platform. Our modules are open source so you can recreate them on TKA and get any quantity built.
@ Gary - I need reflector module, distance etc which are disappeared.
Also this one http://www.turnkeyassembly.com/project/43 I didn’t really understand, is assembled and how to get libs for it?
Thanks a lot
Eugene
@ LarsO - I do basically the same with kids, and I just don’t have time to develop similar modules, feel really abandoned
I like this idea.
What Gary says is true, we can use the TKA to get things made but for those only wanting 1 or 2, the cost is a little high for this.
Your idea of pooling people is a great option that might work. We’ve used similar group buys when I was in the UK for getting the best deals on bulk purchases. I don’t see this as being anything less.
Reflector Module : http://www.turnkeyassembly.com/project/40
Distance Module : Will be on there soon.
There is an SDK specific to discontinued modules, https://www.ghielectronics.com/docs/299/discontinued-gadgeteer-module-drivers
@ Gary - Thanks Garry, but as I understand this one has only 1 reflector, and one u used to have has 3
Its the same module, the picture cut-off the other two reflectors. If you look at the description it reference the 3 reflectors.
