Sorry about the newb question but can someone describe the proper way to physically hook up the relay board for example to a lamp. I searched but could not find a visual example.

Thanks. I should have specified I currently own the device. My question is specific to wiring. I take it that the relay needs separate power 12v source but I have never used a relay so being cautious.

a relay is a switch, a relay switch one contact to either contact 1 or contact 2 depending on if its under power or not

cautious is very good a voltage over 50VAC with a current over 50mA is dangerous for your life

Can you clarify “contact 1 or contact 2”?

Basicly this is what you have to wire. And then control the wired relais from your code.
