Question concerning Gadgeteer Sockets

Can someone point me to information about the sockets? I know the physical connectors are all the same, but some gadgets can only plug into certain sockets. Where can I find information about the socket lettering and signals asoc. with each letter? I have not been able to find that info or I am just not looking in the right places or searching with the right terms.
