Hello, I would like to start by saying I am a converted netduino user. I attended a talk from Duke Nukem in Calgary a few weeks back. It opened my eyes and I love how much faster I can build things without all the extra soldering.
I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a module that is powered by a barrel connector that also takes batteries as a backup in case power is lost. I also need to be able to tell when main power is lost and when it is restored.
I’ve been looking into a design for this as a Gadgeteer module. It wouldn’t have a barrel jack connector but would sit between the power module (DP or SP) and the mainboard and would automatically switch between wall and battery power. I’m still only just talking to the design guy so it might be awhile before units are out unless there was a rush for a bulk order.
Best to incorporate functionality in power module, rather than a module between the mainboard and a power module, since the inserted module would have to also produce regulated 3V and optionally 5V, duplicating functionality from power module.
I had envisioned an all in one power board like Mike suggests. It would be nice to get the status from the board so you could raise events like main power lost or battery level from the power board, allowing you to enable / disable low power modes. If this is being worked on I will hold off on looking into designing one myself and just make a dummy .net interface to program against.
Hi Scott, I’m so happy that I was able to share Gadgeteer with you as that is the whole goal of my presentations and now your going to find an entire community of software and hardware artist who know far more then I do here at TinyCLR, your Gadgeteer experience is only going to get better. As for me being a module junkie, I’m rather excited to know that someone in Calgary will be designing and hopefully selling modules as that will save time on shipping for me I’d love to see a power module that has rechargeable batteries and lets me plug solar panels into it and if I can query it to get power levels or have it raise an event when say power levels get below point X, well bonus points are awarded and I’m interested in buying such a beastie. I’m thinking something like http://www.bootstrapsolar.com/ but in a Gadgeteer module format.
