Is it possible

@ GHI anyway we could have an extender like board with a male head instead of female? One of the very few complaints I have w Gadgeteer is the extra size added.

There was a project I did awhile ago w the Cerb40, a GPS and the OLED module. Hooking up the OLED to the 40 meant a cable on the back of the screen to an extender and then wires to the Cerb.

I’m thinking of revisiting the project and a male headed version would cut down a good percentage of overheard on such a small device.

@ Skewworks - g plug is what you need.

I too like g-plugs. Solder direct to the pads there, and then to your Cerb40 or an intermediate “breakout” of the cerb40’s pins if you’re using that. plug it into your module. Make the cables as long or as short as you like  They come in a 5-pack, which is awesome

:-[ That is exactly what I want. I’m not even going to ask how long this has been a module. Just pretend this conversation never happened.

@ Skewworks - It has been out for awhile now.

I think I first bought them a few years ago when I was using the netduino GO and trying to make a cable. That’s how I actually found GHI’s website, in 2012 If my memory is accurate:)

I bought my first pack with my first board (before I realised just how small they were  ) several years ago.

You guys aren’t so good at pretending a conversation never happened, are ya? :stuck_out_tongue:

@ Skewworks - What conversation?

If it’s any comfort, their memories aren’t all that great, either. I’m certain the g-plugs are no more than a year or so old, 18 months max. Definitely not as old as 2012, as that was only a year after Gadgeteer was introduced:

And I distinctly recall that in those early days there was just the Extender from GHI, and some third-party similar solutions, including the MakeBread module (of which I have several).

My Bad. Just checked my order history. My april 21 2012 order was for extenders, not gplugs. Lol

At least I have an excuse

So since this topic is still going…@ Gus I’ve an order that hasn’t shipped yet. Any chance of including some gplugs on that shipment? I think we did this once before…

@ Skewworks - the best way is to use contact us page and put this in your notes.

third party? dang, don’t I at least rate second party?

I’ve got a pile of unsoldered MakeBread boards collecting dust. For anybody that finds this post, I would be happy to send a few your way for the cost of shipping. That would be without the gadgeteer socket or pin header. I do have a limited number of the latter items, so if you grovel enough I can include them for a pittance (cost). I don’t have enough sockets for all the boards however. Ping me directly here if interested.

Otherwise, I’m going to have to come up with some crazy spiderweb of a project to use them all… maybe a serious set of blinkies at the next local Maker Faire… hmm…

@ Skewworks - just a word of warning… Without myself first owning any G-plugs, I build an adapter to use the same plug before realizing that that part is not keyed and it is not the full width of a G-socket. So, alignment with a G-socket is a very manual process. If this is a one-off for yourself then you’ll be fine. My part was intended for the masses and I’m not comfortable releasing it until I can locate a properly fitting keyed part. It’s just not in the spirit of Gadgeteer for it to be possible for the two to be incorrectly connected. If anyone can point me to such a part I very well may be willing to pay a bounty.

@ ianlee74 - Thanks for the heads up! It is one off so no worries here.

Agreed, that was a little concerning. It would be great if there was a full solution to this, but in the scheme of things I haven’t had any issues with mis-connected plugs (although I am religious about watching for the very faint notch on the silkscreen). Perhaps the closest you’ll get (to the “perfect” solution) is a 10cm cable cut in two and solder the wires directly.

@ Brett - That’s another good possibility, thanks

@ ransomhall - Sorry, Eric. Was posting while a bit rushed and forgot to credit you by name. Bad Devhammer!

no sorries allowed… unless it’s a hardware or software bug, of course.
