Imu

Anybody know of a good IMU for ground based robot use? My price range is basically anything under $120 or around there. What do you guys think of the ArduPilot combo IMUs?

After a bit more searching, I found this: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9623

What do you guys think of it? It also seems to have a compass, which is something else I need.

Thanks!

Both are serial.

Hi Bstag,

Ok, so the first one you linked is an older version of the one in my second post. the other one is one that I haven’t seen before, but it’s a bit less expensive. IF you had to choose one and price wasn’t an object, which one would it be? also, is the compass in the 9DF usable and tilt compesnated?

well its a 3 axis version of the compass.
So the formula I posted in compass post would work. It does not have tilt compensation but can be calculated easily instead of handled internally on the device.

I would go for the Razor any time i can. I have had more experiance with it. They both use the same devices the ardu one has a gps plug in the razor has a battery plug in. they both can use the same source with some slight modification. If you were gonna go with gps i would use the ardupilot version.

GPS is handled via a USB GPS mouse I have, so I guess I’ll go with this one? http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=9623

Thanks!

amke sure you go through this first. http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/tutorial_info.php?tutorials_id=167&sipp=1&page=3 Its very informative.

Yep, I already have. Thanks! I guess I’ll getting the Razor 9DF and some (more…) wiring. Thanks again!

Chris,

I’d like to see that driver when you’re done. Sound like fun.

Yep, I will. I’m really interested to see how well it does, too. The only disturbing thing I noticed is that all the sensors appear to be “lower” quality. If you look at them, they are all $10-20 when there are other models going for $40. What makes those sensors so cheap?
