Idea: Mounting board with un-commited connectors

@ Dave McLaughlin - How much will your module be?

You have a competitor:

Not sure yet. My real issue is the damn header sockets. Without a large MOQ (Samtec needs 10,000 just to get to the $1 area) so I am not finding these at a low cost price and then there is shipping costs.

The 5.08 connectors I can get locally very cheaply but still very good quality.

If I can get the header sockets at a good price I should be able to sell at around the same price.

PSā€¦ The boards just arrived this morning so I will build the first batch this week and testing.

Populated and test one and it works fine. Used it to test a small NFC board I wanted to connect to a Cobra 2 board.

Still trying to find headers cheaper than $1

If I tell you where to get them cheaper than a buck, will you send me a module?

.75, what a bargain

also, forgot to say, you forgot to tell them to put your order number under the big header location so you canā€™t see it ! These boards look defective now, youā€™d better run them out cheap !!!

(yep Iā€™ll buy some off you)

Justin may be able to help you out here. Also, Architect has sold them in the past. Both were much cheaper than $1

Nice module! My only complaint is the name. GHI also has a ā€œBreakoutā€ module. The index in my brain is now going to have to become multicolumnarā€¦

Hi all,

After looking at the costs to get 100 connectors and a guess at the number of boards I might sell, I have have decided that it is not worth the effort to make these seeing as GHI have a similar offer. I have some other ideas that are unique and I think they might be of more interest

Of the 10 prototype bare boards I purchased from DFRobot, I have used 3 already in my projects and they work great.

I would however like to offer these as Open Source Hardware to anyone who wishes to make their own.

The files for the project can be downloaded from the following link.

http://www.axoninstruments.biz/download/GadgeteerBreakout.zip

The Zip file contains the Altium Designer design files, a PDF schematic, Bill Of Materials, Gerbers and NC drill files. I have also included the 3D Step Model of the board.

If you donā€™t have Altium and want any custom changes, give me a shout. You can get a free viewer if you want to load the files and look at them.

Thank you. I think it would be worth it to put it on Creations anyways. It would be much easier to find down later.

Speaking of creationsā€¦

Have you seen OSHParkā€™s ā€œsharedā€ creations now? You could literally upload the gerbers and share them, and then itā€™s only a click away for someone to order their own set. I like the idea !

Indeed! And you donā€™t have to host the files.
