I launched my first Kickstarter - Diode Laser Upgrades

Hey, I just launched my first Kickstarter campaign. For the past 6 months I have been working on upgrade packages for low power diode laser engravers. I thought I would share it with you.

nice shirt

At first glance I’m not too sure what you were selling. But now I get it. Can your system “upgrade” any 3d printer into a laser cutter?

“Sharks not included.”

Nice job! You make me want to go buy a cheap laser just so I can buy one of your upgrade packages

No, sorry, it is an upgrade for a specific type of popular low cost kit from eBay, Banggood, AliExpress, etc. It is targeted at people who bought one of those and want it to work better - or work at all.

can you recommend what laser I should look at when I also go out and buy one of these devices to then get the upgrade package?

I don’t know about @ Blue Hair Bob . But I can recommend this 5.5W laser, It comes with the module for PWM control.

that one is so last year. I mean, really, this is like trying to sell off last years Ford Festiva as a “new car”. Yeah, may not have many k’s (or miles) on the clock, but it’s had hundreds of bums on the seats (ok not sure what the laser analogy will be - but… 2015!)

Last year it was a lot more expensive

@ EvoMotors - So what replaced it this year? I’ve always seen them for engraving, however I’m sure they will make a good laser plotter for pbc making. Can that 5.5W cut acrylic (1/8 inch thick)?

Great video! I see to many of these campaign’s where they just don’t put the time into the video. Nice to see you put the extra effort and quality in your video, because it also shows people that you put the same into the product as well.

Though I don’t use one of these, I hope you product gets funded more than you expected!

I think it will cut 1/8" acrylic, I don’t know how long it will take.
I have 2.5W module that I plan to use on my machine, but I have not yet connected it to test.

I cut 1/8" acrylic all the time with a 5.5W Laser. It will NOT cut clear or blue. It will cut Orange, Red, Yellow, and Green. It does take a while. I cut 8 passes at 180mm/minute to cut through.

Many of this type will work.

Any of those that have the aluminum frame. Either A3 or A5 size. I recommend at least 2.5W and the 5.5W is even better.

What wavelength is the laser? Infrared?

It is not infrared, it is a 405nm purple laser.

stopped looking otherwise I’d spiral down the rabbit hole. SWMBO suggests I get my 3d printer project restarted before I go thinking of other such items. Sigh, lucky one of us is the rational one I guess.

@ Brett - Who is SWMBO?

Could this product be the beginning of a Selective Laser Sintering 3D printer?

SWMBO = She Who Must Be Obeyed
