@ ianlee the housing is a ds18b20 in a surface mount ethernet box… so the center blue wires on a cat5 cable are blue is signal and white blue is power… and all other are ground… my house is all wired with cat 5 to every room . so 2 or three of these and i can sense at my patch panel the entire house… or do an average… i just would not be able to use the jack in that room for network … mod 2 is to put a ds18b20 directly in a rj45 end and crimp it… so it would be mounted directly in the wall …
assuming your jacks are wired like most with all eight wires used, you could create a tether that would sit between the wall jack and your computer and still be able to use the port for ethernet. Only four of the eight wires are actually used for 100Mbs connections. Nice design.
