But what are the benefits of making a class a ‘partial class FEZ_Components instead of regular class?

It makes no difference.
FEZ_Components is just a categorizing namespace.

@ Geir,
The benefits of making a class comply to what GHI does is that if you comes up with the great driver. and they want to add your driver to the firmware, they could do it fast and easy without having you revise your driver again, And of course you could get the reward from it too.
