I did the SP module outline, but I reckon there’s still a gap in the info we have (and it’s more than just Gadgeteer). I think we need to have a “how do I check my firmware version” for all the products, because sometimes they’re specific (eg Spider and Cobra are different because of switches vs buttons to get into bootloader, even though you apply the EMX process to update them). My reasoning is that with all the varieties of boards we’re now seeing we need a “granular” approach to getting started where we show some of these fundamental steps and show where there may be a specific step for each platform.
Gus, thoughts on where I might slot this into the overall guides?
I also wonder about the Gadgeteer First Project, it does require a few bits of knowledge that may not be present; I personally think we need to help guide people, particularly new users, past those first few hurdles and help them get to a point where their first app (“Blink that LED”) is a reality and allows them to prove their install of everything has been done correctly. Am I being to basic in my approach? Thoughts?
I think you’re right on. I think every tutorial should assume the user’s knows nothing. If there is something they need to know then the tutorial that provides that info should be linked or if not available then the info should be included.
Brett, Yes but we have to be careful not to make the tutorial so big that no one reads.
The module tutorials are not to get users started. They assume you did read the first project page. There is a page for firmware update, a link will be added tomorrow.
Note a beginner maybe a school student who needs to read the first project but do not need firmware update, her teacher did that!
