FEZ Hydra Driver

Hi all,
I have problem problem with hydra driver. Only USB DP Module is connected, and power led is on. My system is Windows 7 x64.
I uninstalled 4.1 and installed “GHI NETMF v4.2 and .NET Gadgeteer Package” with all checkboxes are checked which includes “USB Drivers”.
Also tried to update driver from “C:\Program Files (x86)\GHI Electronics\GHI NETMF v4.1 SDK\USB Drivers\GHI_NETMF_Interface”.

When I reset the board, LED blinks 1 time. I think board works properly.

Thanks a lot for suggestions.

While USB specifications say ports should provide 500mA, we rarely see a port that can actually provide 500mA. We always recommend the use of powered hubs or a power pack instead of relying on the USB power. Use a powered hub from a known brand, not a cheap hub. If your device has the option of using a power pack (for example the USB Client DP Module) then you can use a power pack instead. 9V 1A is typically recommended but check the bottom of the circuit board for printed voltage range. All power connectors on GHI products are 2.1mm with positive on the inside and negative on the outer ring.

Not using a powered hub or power pack can cause:
[ul]Unexplained behavior
Device does not function
Device functions intermittently
Device functions but network fails
Device functions but SD card fails
Device functions but firmware update fails[/ul]

Or simply try a different USB Port and a different Cable…

Cheers,

I tried all. Plugged a power supply, connected to all USB ports, changed the cable. Nothing happens.
I can drive a motor from my USB port. It supplies ~0.5A.
Does it mean we can’t use these boards with USB SP Module?

Are there any hints in the event viewer as to what the error was?

So also lets get clear - did you use the Hydra under 4.1 before you did this install? And you had no issues with it?

My next suggestion would be to get the driver removed and let it reinstall from scratch. That might be as simple as right clicking it in Device Manager and selecting Uninstall, or it might be harder :frowning:

That was first time I connected Hydra to my PC. First I tried 4.2 SDK. After that I uninstall mf 4.2, ghi 4.2 sdk. And installed 4.1 of them. Still nothing.
I unistalled driver from device manager, and reinstalled. Windows says driver “Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)”. I couldn’t find any info on event viever. I’m not familiar with it.
I download 64 bit drivers from GHI, same.

I will reinstall Windows.

Hi semicolon,

Do you have an LCD display that you can connect to the Hydra? That will sometimes help in diagnosing the problem.

Seen this one before. Open device manager. Find the related “Unknown Device”. Click it’s properties. “uninstall driver” should now be available. I know it sounds dumb since there isn’t a properly associated driver, but click it anyway. Now disconnect and reconnect. Should work.

I’ve had it happen to me a few times, never really found the reason for it.

Yes I have T35, but I can’t even blink the LED. Because it doesn’t allow me to load a program on Hydra.

When I uninstall driver, it becomes “other device->hydra”. There is no unknown device.

I think my computer has serious problems. I can’t even install Windows. I could finish one time, and got blue screen after Windows boot. Now it gives an error.
"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error Code: 0x80070570"
I thought DVD may be damaged. It’s given with my laptop. This is the second time I use. I downloaded Windows 7 Trial, made USB bootable, and got same error.
Also tried Windows 8 pre-release. It finished installation, but I got Black Screen with mouse pointer after boot. After a short search, I figured out it is a common issue.
But Linux works OK. Can we develop on Linux?

I tried Hydra on my friend’s pc. Its system looks like Windows 7, but feels like XP (theme I think). But it is 32 bit as I checked. I just downloaded GHI USB Driver, and there wasn’t an exclamation mark on device manager.

I think my problem became off topic now on tinyclr.

Thanks everyone who posts.
