Is there a way to turn the LCD off . my Cobra is running some test code and it has to stay up for elongated hours and for sure this is going to shorten the life of LCD (Back light as well as the LCD itself.
How do I achive the effect of turning off the LCD ?? or Back light atleast

Actually that pin doesn’t disable the LCD 
You probably need to disable the backlight and not the LCD. This is not automated in current design but you can connect a wire from the LCD board to turn backlight off. See the LCD board schematics
