"Chappie" (the movie)

Watched it a few weeks ago and found it meandering and fairly pointless. There were so many places I thought it might be heading - real topics in AI - and then it would never get there, and it never became much of a story either. It’s not a documentary, so I could forgive accuracy in favor of a story, but even that wasn’t there. I did read a number of stories about how it was a truly awful experience to make the movie due to some bad behavior on set and a lot of people pulling the script this way and that - and that sure seems to come through, because it was all over the place.

As for what it says about AI, just about any other movie is a better watch. My list : Ex Machina in particular for a recent example, 2001 (of course), Transcendance, Blade Runner, I Robot, Collosus:The Forbin Project. Each of them touch on some of the real philosophical and moral challenges of AI within an actually watchable story (depending on your tastes). Chappie wasn’t worth the time invested in watching it, IMHO. Big Hero 6 would be a better use of your time.
