Can I use a non-rechargeable coin battery on VBAT for the RTC?

Hi everyone,

I use the Fez Panda 2 module and I would like to use the RTC backup availabilty during power failure.

During power without battery, VBAT Pin has a potential of 3V.

So my question is, can I use a non-rechargeable coin battery or I have to use only a rechargeable battery.

Thanks.

Yes, you can use a non-rechargable battery. Note that the RTC current draw spec is about 20 micro amps without external power. Also, do not connect the battery until the Panda II is powered up - there’s a errata sheet on this at NXP, but let me know if you need more info.

Hi Idafez,
Thank for you reply, everything works fine.
Your remark about the time to connect the battery is very useful.
For peoples who want to read the errata sheet here is the link : http://www.nxp.com/documents/errata_sheet/ES_LPC2387.pdf
