French baker…

So, an STM32F427 managing a camera. Can it run stand alone?
No, think of it as an image sensor controller.
Looks like its time to spend some points on GHI insider
You know I always have to push it Gus so here’s a question:
Is the device powerful enough to handle multiple cameras with a single IC? ;D
I’m thinking this could be a good candidate for Wide Area Persistent Stare.
Ok, another question(s):
Is it possible to mux data into the recording directly like GPS location and heading? This could make an awesome dash cam (think russian car crash compilations). Wow, paired with .netmf you could do alot! Would this be available in kit form? Like just the pre-programmed chip, sensor and basic components so that we can roll a custom board? I wonder if a telecentric lens can be mounted on this. If we could get a spinning lens we could do light field photography as well. How fast can the camera be triggered?
@ johnsmith, think of this as an OEM device that just does the single job - run a single camera and store output onto the SD card.
So it won’t run multi-cam, it won’t be able to take a GPS signal, and likely it won’t have a firmware you can mod (without starting from scratch - where you could potentially look to add GPS, but I don’t think you could add a second camera (the chip has a single camera interface)
@ Brett - I was thinking that it could accept some text data which it applies to the frame then writes to the SD card (e.g. a hard coded GPS location and time as digital trace evidence).
@ Mr. John Smith - they have added the ability to use the ad card for file access over the serial connection so you can add a GPS via an external MCU.
Although I have seen cheap clip on SD card cameras from eBay(and Maplin in UK) for about £10. And do you really need GPS when you can see the street signs. Just saying
@ hagster - LOL, my country doesn’t have effective street signs; so yea GPS is required.
Oh, does it record audio as well?
But a cool add-on for next edition ![]()

Or perhaps the next Kickstarter… ALMIC! ![]()

ALCAM has an RTC. So, you could sync up multiple ALCAMs to shoot multiple camera angles, an external mic, GPS, other sensors, etc. then combine it all however you like with a post processor.
@ ianlee74 - and can toggle the capture pin on multiple cameras simultaneously. It is actually very easy to synch multiple cameras.
Remote triggering; that’s good.
So what video format does it record in, or does it just take a series of stills at 30 fps?
@ Mr. John Smith - all questions you have been asking are already answered on the campaign page. Please take a look and let us know if you have other questions. even better post the questions on kickstarter so others can benefit from your questions.
Ok, I won’t lie… I like it… a lot. Damn, I wonder what my wife is going to say about yet another toy for me. Oh well, I’ve gotten away with it plenty of times in the past. One more time can’t make it any worse. Kickstarter backed
Don’t have any money so I can’t back the project so I can’t comment on the kickstarter page.
Therefore would anyone have mercy on me and tell me if the device has a variable shutter? I’d like to know if the device can collect light for long exposures; common in astronomy (Think .netmf enabled telescope). Might be good for asteroid hunting.

The key is you have to occasionally back a Kickstarter on her behalf
For example, my wife doesn’t know she has one of these coming…

these camera devices are likely not suitable for anything like that - they are small sensors and plastic lenses, not what I would call “quality” optics. You can check out the OVxxxx sensor line and get specs.
